Safeguarding Adults Policy Statement

This policy sets out The Kairos Project’s expected practices and behaviours that demonstrate its commitment to Associates, people they work with, and each person’s sense of self and safety. The Kairos Project (Kairos) acknowledges its duty to act appropriately to any allegations, reports or suspicions of abuse or inappropriate behaviour.

The policy and procedures are in place so that Associates, Volunteers, Service users and the leaders of Kairos can work to prevent abuse and know what to do in the event of abuse.

The Policy Statement and Procedures have been drawn up in order to enable The Kairos Project to:

    • promote good practice and work in a way that can prevent harm, abuse, coercion or inappropriate behaviour occurring.
    • to ensure that any allegations of abuse or suspicions are dealt with appropriately and the person experiencing abuse is supported.
    • and to stop that abuse occurring.

The Policy and Procedures relate to the safeguarding of  adults.  Adults are defined as:

    • People aged 18 or over
      • Who are working with The Kairos Project
      • Who are in receipt of Kairos services
      • They may be
        • Receiving or may need care services because of learning, physical or mental health, age, or illness
        • They may be unable to take care of themselves, or unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation.

If there is the likelihood of an adult being at risk it is their responsibility to inform Kairos.
The policy applies to everyone working on behalf of The Kairos Project

It is acknowledged that significant numbers of  adults are abused, or have experienced abuse previously (at any point in their lives) and it is important that The Kairos Project has a Safeguarding Adults Policy, a set of procedures to follow and that puts in place preventative and corrective measures.

In order to implement the policy the Kairos Project will work to:

    • promote the freedom and dignity of the person who has or is experiencing abuse
    • promote the rights of all people to live free from abuse and coercion
    • ensure the safety and well being of people and support their capacity to choose how they want to respond to abuse that they are experiencing
    • manage services in a way which promotes safety and prevents abuse
    • recruit Associates, Contractors and Suppliers safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made
    • provide effective support for Associates, Contractors through supervision, support and training

    The Kairos Project:

    • will ensure that all Associates and Contractors are familiar with this policy and procedures
    • will work with other agencies within the framework of relevant Safeguarding Adults, Board Policy and Procedures.
    • will act within it’s commitment to client confidentiality
    • will inform service users that where a person is in danger, a child is at risk or a crime has been committed then a decision may be taken to pass information to an agency without the service user’s consent
    • will make a referral to a relevant Adult Social Care team as appropriate
    • will endeavour to keep up to date with national/international developments relating to preventing abuse and welfare of adults
    • will ensure that the Designated Named Person understands his/her responsibility to refer incidents of adult abuse to the relevant statutory agencies (Police/GSAB)
